Adds curvy new Odyssey G7 to its display arsenal

Samsung has decided gamers still aren’t clicking enough buttons per second, so it’s unveiled the Odyssey OLED G6, which it claims is the world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor, alongside two new Odyssey G7 models.

All three are on sale in the US today, with the G6 aimed at people who think 240Hz is for amateurs.

Samsung display boss David Phelps claimed: “With the world’s first 500 Hz OLED monitor and dynamic new G7 form factors, we’re delivering enhanced levels of competitive and immersive gaming and setting a new benchmark for monitor performance and design in the market.”

The 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 packs QHD resolution, a searing 500Hz refresh rate, a blistering 0.03ms response time and QD-OLED colour. It’s VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certified, plays nice with Nvidia G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and tops out at 1,000 nits brightness with Samsung’s Glare Free coating.

Samsung’s OLED Safeguard+ tech is thrown in to reduce burn-in paranoia, and the G6 is Pantone validated, meaning colours should actually look like they’re meant to.

For those who prefer their screens massive and curvy, the Odyssey G7 lineup now comes in 37-inch and 40-inch flavours. The 37-incher offers a 1000R curve, 4K UHD resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, while the 40-inch monster delivers a 21:9 WUHD canvas at 180Hz for panoramic gaming overkill.

Both G7s are HDR 600 certified and support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. There’s the usual Samsung lighting gimmickry with CoreSync and CoreLighting+, and an Auto Source Switch+ that spares you a trip into the menus when swapping devices.

The 40-inch G7 can even run split-screen setups for gaming and, if you must, other work on the side.
