AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, 32GB LPDDR5X, 1TB SSD, and hefty battery

Lenovo's upcoming Legion Go 2 handheld has been confirmed and it packs quite a punch with 1200p 144Hz OLED screen, AMD's Ryzen Z2 and Z2 Extreme SoCs, up to 32GB of memory, 1TB of SSD storage, and a hefty 74Whr battery.

Lenovo started its handheld journey with the Legion Go S, one of the first handhelds that featured AMD Ryzen Z-series SoC, with the Legion Go S going for entry-level Ryzen Z2 Go and the Legion Go featuring the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. The new version, dubbed the Legion Go 2, will get plenty of upgrades, including the Ryzen Z2 Extreme SoC.

According to the pictures and specifications leaked by Evan Blass (@evleaks), the Legion Go 2 features a more ergonomic design, featuring removable joysticks, making it practically a 3-in-1 device: a handheld, a tablet, or docked as a laptop. Lenovo says that the Legion Go 2 will be equipped with "up to" an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, suggesting there will be several SKUs, most likely with other Ryzen Z2 SoCs.

In case you missed it, the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is the only one based on the newer Strix Point with Zen 5 8-core/16-thread CPU and RDNA 3.5 GPU with 16 Compute Units. The "other" Ryzen Z2 SoCs are based on either the Zen 4, Zen 3+ or Zen 2 architectures, and RDNA 3 GPU with 12 or 8 GPU cores.

One of the biggest improvements is the new 1200p OLED display with 500 nits of brightness, True Black 1000 HDR, and 144Hz refresh rate. Lenovo also improved the cooling solution and gave the Legion Go 2 a big battery upgrade, pushing up to 74Whr.

Unfortunately, there is no word on the price or the availability date, but earlier information suggests Lenovo could launch the Legion Go 2 at the IFA 2025 show in Berlin.
