Original TV style programming headed to Xbox?

Microsoft trying to cut a deal for streaming content
It really isn’t news anymore that Microsoft has been trying to think of new things to add to Xbox Live to energize the platform outside of just gaming. According to sources, Microsoft has been having some discussions where they are pitching the idea of developing an Xbox Live channel of original content for the platform.
The concept would actually be building a TV of its own that would be streamed to the Xbox 360. The channel would be targeted at a young male audience and would feature both new shows and re-runs of shows in syndication. Apparently, high level discussions have been taking place with Microsoft and former News Corp big wig, Peter Chernin. The channel, if given the green light, would apparently be a joint venture between Microsoft and Chernin.
Of course, television isn’t cheap, and in order to offset the cost you can guess that it will likely offer advertising; and one idea that is being talked about is raising the cost of the Xbox Live Gold subscription by a dollar or two per month to cover it. Of course, as you can guess, it will be available to Xbox Live Gold Subscribers only.
As crazy as it sounds, Netflix streaming is so popular many believe that with the right mix of content and the demographic that they are targeting, a streaming video channel on Xbox might become quite popular. From what we are hearing, the channel would be exclusive to the Xbox and you would not be able to get it on cable or satellite. We will have to see where this goes, but we would not be surprised if Microsoft decided to at least try this concept, as it might be just the ticket.
