Cisco gives up on WiMax base stations

Only interested in IP
Cisco has decided to stop building WiMAX base stations saying that it is more interested in IP products that are used in both WiMAX and LTE networks. Last year Cisco was dead keen on WiMax and wanted to build gear Clearwire's CLEAR 4G mobile WiMAX services.
Under the deal Cisco was Clearwire's core provider for IP networks. Cisco said it will still provide IP infrastructure for WiMAX, but it will no longer develop radios or other WiMAX products like base stations and modems.
Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and AT&T have all announced plans to follow the GSM backed LTE 4G path, instead of the fourth generation WiMAX network that Sprint is deploying.
