But not the disks

Contract
prices for Blu-Ray machines are falling as the industry misses the point about what is putting on the brakes for the technology.

Digitimes reports that Contract-manufacturing quotes for PC-use Blu-ray Disk drives have dropped to $70-80. This is still much higher than the $20 for DVD drives, but is falling fast. However makers of Blu-ray machines are not finding that the gear is shifting at anywhere near the high numbers required for the technology to take off.

This is because the Blu-ray disks are far too expensive for consumers to want them. Analysts think that the price would have to drop to about that of a DVD disk before anyone would look twice at them.

However there is a marked reluctance for the likes of Sony to drop the price of disks.
