AMD thrashes server market

by on15 August 2025

Record 41 per cent share

Chipzilla’s life just got a lot more miserable after AMD walked off with a record 41 per cent of server revenue in the second quarter of 2025, according to number crunchers from Mercury Research.

That’s a jump of 7.2 percentage points year-on-year and 1.5 points from the previous quarter, marking yet another embarrassment for the boys in blue who still can’t seem to get their server act together.

AMD’s overall revenue share hit 33 per cent, up 8.8 points compared to last year, while the client segment rose to 27.8 per cent thanks to continued growth in both cloud and enterprise.

Ryzen desktop chips also had a stormer, with desktop revenue share leaping 20.5 points year-on-year and 4.9 points quarter-on-quarter to 39.3 per cent. Notebook share slipped slightly, down 0.7 points from Q1, landing at 21.5 per cent, though still up nearly four points compared to 2024.

The news will put even more pressure on Chipzilla’s board, already reeling from lost market confidence, a CEO reshuffle and a delayed manufacturing roadmap that continues to disappoint both investors and OEM partners.
