Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates told the BBC that he wouldn’t think twice about paying more taxes, as the US is already struggling with a huge deficit.
"The United States has a huge budget deficit, so taxes are going to have to go up," he said. "And I certainly agree that they should go up more on the rich than everyone else. That's just justice."
Taxing the rich has become something of a wedge issue in US politics lately, but several billionaires, including Warren Buffett, have already come out in favor of higher taxes for the super-rich.
Gates stressed that the deficit problem had to be resolved with a shared sacrifice, where everyone would do their part.
“Right now, I don't feel like people like myself are paying as much as we should," he said.
